Tiger-Phil Match II Viewer’s Guide: Woods and Peyton Manning take on Mickelson and Tom Brady
Live pro golf action returned last week with the Seminole Skins match, but this Sunday golf fans will be treated to an even more scintillating live golf matchup when Tiger Woods and Peyton Manning face off against Phil Mickelson and Tom Brady in “The Match: Champions for Charity.”
Here’s everything you need to know about the Tiger Woods-Phil Mickelson Match II:
Tiger-Phil Match II background information
The origins of this golf exhibition began late in 2018, when Woods and Mickelson competed in The Match at Shadow Creek in Las Vegas. Phil pulled away with the victory under the lights that night, but afterward the two golf greats assured fans that they hoped this was just the beginning of many future matches.
The shutdown of the PGA Tour due to the coronavirus pandemic gave Woods and Mickelson some unplanned time off this spring, and with fans hungry for live golf to watch, the moment seemed perfect for a rematch. This time, though, Tiger and Phil are upping the ante in a major way by adding a pair of all-time NFL greats to the mix in Manning and Brady.
The four players will compete at Medalist Golf Club in Hobe Sound Florida, where Woods is a member and regularly tees it up for practice when home. The unique match play event will feature a four ball format for the front nine and a modified alternate shot format for the back. In all, the match will raise at least $10 million to support coronavirus relief efforts, but the players will have opportunities on the course to earn even more for the selected charities.
