The 2022 Players Championship, the PGA Tour’s flagship event, kicks off this week at historic TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the tournament.
Players Championship preview
This week the pro golf season truly starts to heat up. The Players Championship may not be a major, but it does offer the biggest purse in golf history, more even than the four big ones. This week the Tour’s best will be fighting to claim their share of a massive $20 million prize pool, with the winner taking home a whopping $3.2 million.
World No. 1 Jon Rahm has every intention of adding that sum to his bank account on Sunday at TPC Sawgrass. Despite his ranking, Rahm has yet to win in 2022, though he’s contended pretty much every time he’s teed it up.
Can he conquer treacherous Sawgrass and the iconic island-green par-3 17th? Perhaps, but that’s not the only hurdle he has to overcome. The entire top 10 in the OWGR are in the field, including Rory McIlroy, Bay Hill winner Scottie Scheffler, World No. 2 Collin Morikawa and more.
Rahm will play the first two rounds in a powerhouse grouping featuring Player of the Year Patrick Cantlay and World No. 3 Viktor Hovland. The trio will begin their first round at 7:51 a.m. ET on Thursday.
Live coverage of this year’s Players Championship will be provided by Golf Channel and NBC on TV. PGA Tour Live on ESPN+ will offer wall-to-wall streaming coverage online for those who prefer to stream the tournament, and Peacock will carry the NBC broadcasts.
