The PGA Tour travels to Texas this week for the 2021 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the tournament.
WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play preview
This week the PGA Tour looks different than any other. Why? Two words: Match play. At least in the United States, this is the one week we get to see the pros competing under a different one-on-one format. And since it’s a WGC, a truly elite field has been assembled.
Sixty-four of the top men’s golfers will compete. They will be seeded based on the Official World Golf Ranking, and then broken down into 16 four-player groups based on their seeds. Each group will compete among themselves over the first three days, one match per day. The player in each group with the most points after round-robin play will move on to four rounds of single-elimination play, with the final match taking place Sunday night.
The man on top of the seedings is World No. 1 Dustin Johnson. Not only has DJ won an impressive six WGC titles in his career, he’s also a former Match Play champion, having taken home the title in 2017. Johnson will face off against Adam Long on Wednesday beginning at 2:15 p.m. ET. Rory McIlroy will kick off the action Wednesday with a match against Ian Poulter at 8:45 a.m. ET.
