Where we left off: Who is poised for a strong second half?

Bryson DeChambeau

The PGA Tour returns June 9 after a nearly three-month shutdown due to the spread of the coronavirus. It was quite the break, but golf is back long before other sports are returning. So, what was life like on Tour before the shutdown? Let this series remind you of where we left off.

Who is poised for a strong second half?

The spread of the coronavirus really split up the PGA Tour season into halves. Pre-Covid and post-Covid. Welcome to the Post-Covid Tour season.

If we had to choose one player who is poised to tear through the second half of the season, look no further than Bryson DeChambeau. DeChambeau, you’ll recall, has spent much of the last 12 months bulking up. He’s worked out like a mad man and gained all kinds of weight, but amid that he had turned his game around.

DeChambeau notched three consecutive top-5 finishes prior to the shutdown, at three very different golf courses (Riviera, Chapultapec, Bay Hill). He’s become one of the best drivers of the golf ball on Tour. And what is he looking at now? A very Bryson schedule.

DeChambeau has fared well at the RBC Heritage in years past, and has often played well in the summer at the Travelers Championship. But his shining moment might come at the Memorial tournament and the Workday event held at the same course a week prior. Could DeChambeau rattle off multiple wins at the same course in consecutive weeks? Come back and thank me when he does.
