Spieth has been threatening to end his winless drought for months now, and it may take this week’s format change to put him over the top. If he’s going to keep his tournament hopes alive, he’ll need to defeat or tie Corey Connors (0-0-2) on Friday.

But that’s not all. He also needs Matthew Wolff (1-0-1) to tie or lose to Matt Fitzpatrick (1-1-0). Fitzpatrick isn’t out of it either, for a victory paired with Spieth loss would see the young Englishman advance. If both group matches end in ties, Spieth and Wolff would decide things in a playoff.
