Sanderson Farms Championship final round preview
The stage could be a set for the anointment of a new first-time winner on the PGA Tour on Sunday at the Sanderson Farms Championship, where 23-year-old Sahith Theegala leads the field. Theegala, who just a year ago won the Nicklaus Award as the top collegiate player in America for his senior season at Pepperdine, holds a one-stroke lead over the remainder of the field after finishing his third straight round in the 60s on Saturday afternoon.
On Sunday, Theegala will look to hold off Cameron Tringale, fresh off a Saturday 62 to vault himself within a stroke of the lead. Also in contention behind Theegala (-18) are Ryder Cup snub Sam Burns (-17), Denny McCarthy (-17) and Cameron Young (-17) — those five should figure to make up the majority of the leaderboard Sunday at the Country Club of Jackson.
Further back, Si Woo Kim, Will Zalatoris and Matthew Wolff will each need Sunday charges to find themselves in the thick of contention. Those three young guns are each looking to start their 2021-22 season on the right foot after each stumbling into the finish line in 2020.
