The 2020 U.S. Women’s Open — the final and arguably biggest major of the year — kicks off this week at Champions Golf Club in Houston, Texas. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the tournament.
U.S. Women’s Open preview
You may have thought that major championship golf finished with Dustin Johnson’s triumph at the Masters, but you would be wrong. The most prestigious event in women’s golf is coming up this week, but it almost didn’t get played at all.
This year’s edition of the U.S. Women’s Open was supposed to be played in early June, but that was before the Covid-19 pandemic struck. Fortunately, organizers were able to sneak it in before the end of the year, rescheduling it for this week. And that’s a good thing for golf fans everywhere, because the 2020 women’s majors have been thrilling so far.
Staff Picks: Women’s Apparel
Shop NowAt the AIG Women’s Open in August, then 304th-ranked Sophia Popov shocked the golf world by storming to a two-shot victory at Royal Troon. In September, Mirim Lee defeated Nelly Korda and Brooke Henderson in a dramatic playoff at the ANA Inspiration that wasn’t without controversy. Then in October, Sei Young Kim captured her 11th LPGA win and first major title at the KPMG Women’s PGA.
All three 2020 major winners are back in the field this week at Champions Golf Club, looking to cap off career years with another piece of major hardware. But they won’t be the only competition for the U.S. Women’s Open title. American stars Nelly Korda and Danielle Kang, defending champion Jeongeun Lee6, and World No. 1 Jin Young Ko will all be battling it out for the win this week.
The tournament will be contested across two courses at Champions Golf Club: the Cypress Creek and Jackrabbit courses. Players will alternate between the two. You can find all the information you need to follow the U.S. Women’s Open below, including a TV schedule, online streaming scheudle, and complete first and second round tee times.
