Wyndham Championship adjusts final-round schedule: What you need to know

Russell Henley was tied for the lead after 54 holes at this year’s U.S. Open, only to finish tied for 13th. So when he shot out ahead after the first round at this week’s Wyndham Championship, he no doubt knew the question was coming:

What’d he learn from June?

“I think just from everything I’ve learned over all the golf I’ve played is you’ve got to keep attacking out here and you’ve got to keep giving yourself a chance to do that,” Henley said Thursday. “Keep attacking and keep trying to play a great round. I feel like at the U.S. Open I was not as committed to a few shots that really cost me and didn’t feel — felt like the nerves were kind of making me feel a little bit tentative. Just know that I can play under pressure and just keep committing to my shots.”

We’ll learn Sunday if it all sunk in.

Henley led after Friday and Saturday, too, and he heads into Sunday’s final round at Sedgefield Country Club with a three-shot advantage over Tyler McCumber, a four-stroke cushion over six players, and a five-shot edge over another six. Henley, McCumber and Branden Grace will play in the final grouping at 9:12 a.m. ET., as all tee times have been moved up due to expected storms in the Greensboro, N.C., area.

And what will Henley do Saturday night?

“Yeah, I mean, I try to just get away from it for the few hours that I have, go help my wife put my kids to bed and probably change a few diapers and read a few books to them,” he said. “I don’t know, I think there’s really no way to — there’s no real secret. I think just trying to get a good meal and get your mind away from it if you can. Like I said, I’m excited to play.”
