By day’s end, we will have a new U.S. Open champion. The prestige that comes with that title is priceless as the winner will see his name engraved on a trophy alongside names like Jones, Nicklaus and Woods. But along with the non-quantifiable clout, the winner will also receive some perks that are quantifiable — such as a check for $2.2 million.
And that’s not the only thing the winner will get for conquering Winged Foot. He’ll also receive the U.S. Open trophy and the U.S. Open gold medal, which are some pretty good conversation pieces for the living room. In addition to the hardware, a whole boatload of World Ranking points are bestowed to the winner — 100 to be exact — and 600 FedEx Cup points. That’s a pretty good way to get a head start to East Lake next fall.
The exemptions are a nice perk, too. With a win, you get a 10-year U.S. Open exemption as well as five-year exemptions into the Open, Masters and PGA Championship. The winner also punches their ticket to the following year’s Tournament of Champions, a no-cut event that guarantees a nice payday.
