It’s been a while for Dustin Johnson, but it might not be much longer. The former world No. 1 sits just two strokes back of the leader (Brendon Todd) heading into the final round of play at the Travelers Championship from TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Conn.
Johnson moved to 16 under for the tournament after a bogey-less third round 61 that saw five birdies on the back nine alone. DJ has been plagued by injury and inconsistency over the last two years — his last victory came all the way back in February 2019 at the WGC-Mexico Championship and he has only two wins in the last 25 months.
But if Johnson is to leave the Travelers victorious, he’ll have to supersede the performance set forth by Brendon Todd. Todd’s dominant driving performance has put him at 18 under heading into Sunday, his worst round of the week coming in at a breezy 66. The 34-year-old is the only player on the PGA Tour with three 54-hole leads during the 2020 season and has hit 41 of 42 fairways heading into the final round of play. Johnson and Todd are set to tee off shortly after 2:00 p.m., ET (you can check out the rest of Sunday’s tee times here)
Also lurking near the top of the leaderboard are Bryson DeChambeau (tied for fifth at 13 under), Abraham Ancer (tied for seventh at 12 under) and Phil Mickelson (also at 12 under). Mickelson squandered his 36-hole lead with a 1-over 71 on Saturday, lowlighted by a sequence in which he struck a sand shot over the green and onto a nearby set of train tracks.
Below is the prize money and winner’s share for the Travelers Championship’s $7.4 million purse; TV coverage begins at 1:00 p.m. ET on Golf Channel before the action switches over to CBS at 3:00 p.m. ET.
