Lucas Herbert has gone on quite a run over the last two years, culminating with a win at the Bermuda Championship last month. It was an important win for his young career — his first victory on the PGA Tour — and it vaulted the Australian’s name into the mix for next year’s Presidents Cup.
Herbert missed out on the 2019 Presidents Cup in his home country, partially due to poor play from the extreme pressure he put on himself to make the squad. But now, with four wins worldwide over the last two years, he’s setting himself up for a run to make Trevor Immelman’s team.
“I want to play one at some point,” Herbert said on this week’s episode of GOLF’s Subpar. “I want to get rid of this trend of Americans just absolutely smashing us.”

Since the Cup’s inception in 1994, the U.S. teams holds a decisive 11-1-1 advantage over their international counterparts.
Despite his stellar play of late, Herbert is still outside the automatic qualification spots. There is still plenty of time before players head to Quail Hollow next fall, but if he wants to make the team, he’ll need to continue his hot play.
“I’d love to be on that team,” Herbert said. “I’d love to give everything I could to win some points for us and try and buck the trend, but it’s gonna be hard.”
