The 2022 Sony Open in Hawaii gets underway Thursday afternoon on the island of Honolulu. Here’s what you need to know to watch the first round on TV or online.

Previewing Sony Open Round 1

Hideki Matsuyama has been a force to be reckoned with on the PGA Tour for years now, but in 2021 he took his stardom to a whole new level. The 29-year-old Japanese star captured his first major title at the 2021 Masters, instantly making him a household name.

At times following his Masters triumph, Matsuyama struggled to get his game straight on the course, as often happens with recent major winners. But his play came around at the end of the year, which saw him make a valiant charge at the Olympics and add his seventh PGA Tour win at the Zozo Championship, both in his home country.

This week, Matsuyama is in Honolulu for the first full-field Tour event of the new year, where he’s one of the best-ranked players in the field. For Thursday’s opening round, Matsuyama will tee off at 1:10 p.m. ET alongside Kevin Kisner and Webb Simpson.
