Notable pairings for Tournament of Champions Round 1

The field at this year’s Tournament of Champions is bigger than ever, thanks to temporary qualification standards introduced in light of the Covid-19 pandemic. Forty-two golfers in total will compete at Kapalua this week, beginning with the opening round on Thursday. And the list of competitors features a bevy of heavy-hitters.

World No. 3 Justin Thomas is back to defend his title and try to inch closer to overtaking Dustin Johnson for the No. 1 spot. Johnson, the newly-minted Masters champion, is paired with Thomas for the first round in Hawaii. Maui, where host venue Kapalua Resort is located, is five hours behind the Eastern time zone. So JT and DJ will tee off in the final group at 5:30 p.m. ET.

Other notable pairings for the opening round include Xander Schauffele and Jon Rahm (5:20 p.m. ET); Collin Morikawa and Scottie Scheffler (5:10 p.m. ET); Bryson DeChambeau and Brendon Todd (4:00 p.m. ET); and Patrick Reed and Sebastián Muñoz (5:00 p.m. ET).
