The PGA Tour hosts its flagship tournament this week at infamous TPC Sawgrass: the 2021 Players Championship. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the tournament.

Players Championship preview

The last time the crystal Players Championship trophy was awarded on the 18th green at TPC Sawgrass, Rory McIlroy was the recipient and at the top of his game. But that was way back in 2019. At last year’s event, the tournament — and the entire PGA Tour — shut down following one round as the Covid-19 pandemic began to take hold in the United States and the world.

Much has changed in a year, but one thing has remained the same: Rory McIlroy, winless since the fall of 2019, is still looking for his next win. If this is the week he does it, he’ll have to get past a high-powered field that features the top 11 and nearly all of the top 50 men’s players in the world.

Of the top 11 players, no one has experienced as much positive change as Bryson DeChambeau. Since last year’s abridged Players, DeChambeau has become the most talked-about player in the game, and for good reason. He’s won three times in that span, including his breakthrough major victory at the 2020 U.S. Open, and his eighth PGA Tour win at last week’s Arnold Palmer Invitational. Though he will have to contend with the new “Bryson Rule” this week.

If Rory and Bryson aren’t big enough draws for you, you can also tune in to watch World No. 1 Dustin Johnson, Justin Thomas, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed and more.
