The 2020-21 PGA Tour season is in full swing now, and this week fans will be treated to a star-studded event at a historic venue: the 2021 Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey Pines. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the tournament.
Farmers Insurance Open Preview
Torrey Pines and the Farmers Insurance Open ae synonymous with Tiger Woods. Woods has won eight times at Torrey, including his dramatic playoff victory over Rocco Mediate at the 2008 U.S. Open. But thanks to a recent back surgery, Tiger won’t be in town for this year’s event. No matter, because fans will still witness the strongest field of the year tee it up this week.
World No. 7 Rory McIlroy leads the way. The four-time major champion won PGA Tour Player of the Year honors in 2019 but failed to capture a win last year. But his game is rounding into form at the right time. He finished third at the European Tour’s Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship last week, and secured a T5 at the November Masters, his last appearance on the PGA Tour.
McIlroy will play the first two rounds alongside two other heavy-hitters: Brooks Koepka and Matthew Wolff. They’ll be joined by a host of other Tour stars, including Phil Mickelson, Jon Rahm, Rickie Fowler, Jordan Spieth, Patrick Reed, Bubba Watson and defending champion Marc Leishman, to name a few.
