The second major of the men’s golf calendar is here, and a couple of familiar names are the betting favorites with Rory McIlroy and Justin Thomas as the two players to beat in this week’s PGA Championship. According to golfodds.com, the two share 12/1 odds to raise the Wanamaker Trophy come Sunday night.
McIlroy is coming off a victory in his last start at the Wells Fargo Championship, which snapped a 17-month victory drought. The four-time major champion was also the winner in the last iteration of the PGA as he lapped the field on the way to an eight-stroke victory in 2012.
Thomas is in the midst of yet another string season as he owns 11 top 25s in 14 events played and has a victory at the Players Championship. The 2017 PGA champion sits No. 2 in the Official World Golf Ranking as he looks to become the 21st man to win multiple Wanamaker Trophies.
Lagging behind the co-favorites is a quartet of stars that includes Dustin Johnson, Jon Rahm, Jordan Spieth and Bryson DeChambeau.
Johnson, the world No. 1, is searching for his first victory since last fall’s Masters triumph while Rahm tries for his first major championship title. Spieth finally broke his winless spell last month with a win at the Texas Open as he now sets his sights on completing the career grand slam and DeChambeau aims to collect his second major title with his revamped body.
