The 2021 U.S. Open field begins to take its final shape today as sectional qualifiers take place across the country. The event saw 8,680 entrants sign up for their chance at glory. “From Many, One,” as the USGA’s new tagline likes to make clear.
There are normally at least 12 sectional qualifiers — sometimes even 13 — held across the world, but this year that number is 11 with Canada and England’s qualifiers being canceled. In order to survive this final test, players are asked to finish in a tiny, top group of just a few at each qualifier. Finish first, second or third at a sectional, you’re almost certainly getting through. Finish fifth, sixth or seventh? Things are going to be tight. You might be looking at a playoff for the final spot. Or for an alternate spot. You never know.
Track the results below of how each sectional plays out, with host courses, notable players competing and the lucky (and skilled) few who got through. We will update this post throughout the day. Click on the site names to see live results. The U.S. Open is June 17-20 at Torrey Pines in La Jolla, Calif.
