BMW Championship Round 3 Preview
Bryson DeChambeau is back, if he ever really left, that is. The 2020 U.S. Open champion began the year on a tear, but his recent results haven’t stood up to his own high expectations. That all changed on Friday at the BMW Championship.
DeChambeau fired an incredible 12-under 60 in the second round, just missing a short birdie putt on the 18th hole at Caves Valley GC that would have given him a rare 59. The round, the lowest of DeChambeau’s Tour career, gave him a one-shot lead over Patrick Cantlay at 16 under, but, more importantly, it moved him from 9th in the FedEx Cup standings into projected-1st place.
World No. 1 Rahm reached 15 under and had a birdie putt lined up on the par-5 16th hole before play was suspended for the night due to darkness. Rahm and the rest of the players left on the course resumed their rounds Saturday morning at 8:30 a.m. ET, but Rahm played the final three holes one over, finishing in third at 14 under.
