2020 PGA Championship: How to watch the first major of the year at TPC Harding Park

After a 13-month layoff, major championship golf finally returns this week with the 2020 PGA Championship at TPC Harding Park in San Francisco. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the event.

There are a lot of questions heading into the first major of the abridged 2020 season this week. Many of them involve Tiger Woods. The reigning Masters champion has played only one tournament since the PGA Tour returned (a T40 finish at the Memorial) and has shown mixed results in the few events he’s entered this season.

If Woods wants to capture his fifth career PGA Championship title and 16th major overall, he’ll need his best game to show up, and for his aching back to hold up under the pressure. He was spotted practicing at Harding Park on Sunday, so he won’t be unprepared.
Brooks Koepka will be attempting an extremely rare major championship three-peat this week. Koepka won the 2018 PGA Championship and successfully defended his title last year at Bethpage Black. No golfer has achieved the feat since 1956. Koepka is battling a bad knee and middling play, but he finished T2 at last week’s WGC-FedEx St. Jude Invitational, and he has a history of playing his best at the majors.
But one player with a strong history at the PGA finished above Koepka in Memphis: Justin Thomas. The new world No. 1 and 2017 PGA champion is the most recent player not named Brooks to hoist the Wanamaker trophy, and he’s playing at the top of his game at the perfect time.
They’ll all compete at the fan-less PGA against an elite field that features all of the game’s hottest players, including Bryson DeChambeau, Jon Rahm, Rory McIlroy and Dustin Johnson.

How to watch the PGA Championship on TV
For the first time, ESPN will carry the broadcast for the first and second rounds of the 2020 PGA Championship, and their coverage is extensive. They will air five hours of live action on Thursday and Friday, as well as three hours each on Saturday and Sunday.

CBS takes over the broadcast for the heart of the third and fourth rounds. CBS will air six hours of coverage beginning around when the leaders tee off on Saturday and Sunday. Here’s the full TV schedule:

How to watch the PGA Championship online, streaming
In addition to the ESPN TV broadcasts, ESPN+ will stream the opening tee shots on Thursday and Friday and follow it with six hours of traditional coverage before the TV broadcasts begin. ESPN+ will also stream two hours of early action on Saturday and Sunday.
