Father’s Day gift guide: 5 golfy items dads on our staff actually want
Father’s Day, a time to celebrate your golf-loving dad, is coming up quickly — so it’s time to act on those last-minute gift ideas. We compiled a massive Father’s Day guide you can check out here and selected drivers your dad might want here, but we also asked a handful of dads on GOLF’s staff what they actually want. Here are their picks.

On the other 364 days of the year, I often tell my kids to talk to the hand. On Father’s Day I’ll be asking them to look at the hand. Mine is currently gloveless and that’s a problem. I want something soft and tacky and stylish, and G/FORE’s line checks all those boxes. You can go zanier than dark blue on the colors if you like. My preference is for the understated tones but really, all the gloves look great and perform even better.

My son is 15, so gift-giving isn’t his strong suit. I’ve put in a request for The RainDrop retractable putting string because it’s not too expensive, and I figure if my kid gives it to me, I’ll feel even more obligated to practice with it. (As if 40 putts per round isn’t motivation enough!) Seriously though, The RainDrop is convenient to carry, easy to use, and very effective for improving alignment and feel. If the boy doesn’t come through, I’m sure I’ll get one for myself.

The perfect shoe for the dad golfer who is short on time and needs the flexibility to run from family room to garage to course to family BBQ without changing your shoes. And, for the sneaker lover like myself, nothing beats the look and feel of the Air Max 90.

A few weeks back, I played golf with some pals as part of a bachelor party weekend in Westchester County, N.Y., about 40 miles from my New Jersey home. Beautiful day, fun old-school course, steak dinner. Life was good. But when I got home I realized I had left behind at the club more than just a bruised ego. Sitting in the bottom of a wooden locker were my golf shoes: a pair of never-to-be-retrieved Puma Ignites, which behind my slippers were the second-most comfortable footwear in my closet. I miss them dearly. If my kids love me, they’ll order me a new pair.

I have a go-to GPS device and am stocked with a few pairs of great golf shoes, but what I don’t have is a quality white polo, something that looks great with any color pants or shorts. I’m a fan of a lot of TravisMathew’s polos, but the best part about their gear is that it works on or off the course. Sign me up for the Balmy Breeze polo.
