Former Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo’s golf prowess is well known. Not only has he been been a longtime staple of the pro-am circuit, he’s also played in a PGA Tour event and even made it through the first stage of Web.com Tour Q School last year.
So it should come as no surprise that Romo has serious game, and that game was on full display on Friday at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am.
On Pebble Beach’s par-4 15th hole, Romo hit his drive into a hospitality area and opted to play the ball as it lies, right from the hospitality tent carpet.
“I just wanted to come say hi,” Romo jokes, striding through the crowd of people to assess his lie.
“It’s a good lie, though, Tony,” a spectator notes. “It is a good lie,” Romo responds.
After a few easy practice swings, Romo addresses the ball and pures it with an easy wedge swing. He knows it’s good, and starts walking after the ball to follow its progress. Incredibly, the ball bounces on the green pin-high, and rolls out to within a foot of the cup.
Romo, smiling broadly, accepts cheers and congratulations from the spectators in the hospitality area, shaking hands and high-fiving his way to the green before sinking an easy tap-in for birdie.
“I don’t think anything will top that today,” you can hear the announcer say.
Romo is paired with Jim Furyk this week, and the duo had a good day on Friday, combining for a score of 65 at Pebble Beach. After a so-so first round of 70 on Thursday, Friday’s charge moved them 65 spots up the amateur leaderboard into a tie for 53rd. The top 60 teams and ties make the 54-hole cut to move on to Sunday’s final round.
There are currently four pro-am teams tied for the lead at 18 under par. You can watch Romo’s heroic shot in its entirety below.
