FIRST LOOK: TaylorMade Kalea Premier women’s line offers more speed and forgiveness

TaylorMade's lighter and more forgiving Kalea Premier women's clubs

Taylormade golf

The new Kalea Premier line of golf clubs from TaylorMade is offering women golfers their most forgiving and comprehensive line of clubs to date. By combining proven technologies with lightweight specs specifically tuned to create more forgiveness and speed — you can say goodbye to the outdated “shrink it and pink it” philosophy of building women’s clubs.

With more people playing golf than ever before and one of the largest growing segments being women, it should be no surprise that equipment companies are expanding their offerings to fit this target demographic that has been vastly underserved. Although almost every equipment company offers the ability for women’s flex shafts to be custom built into any club head, many of those heads are not specifically engineered to the needs of a segment of the female golf population.

In the exact same way male golfers are not one size fits all when it comes to equipment, the same goes for women golfers too. The Kalea Premier line is intended for golfers at the lower end of the speed spectrum, and the engineers at TaylorMade made it their goal from the start to do everything they could to add speed and forgiveness to every club.

All of the clubs in the Kalea Premier line can be purchased individually (priced below), but as a whole, the line is also available in two complete package set options with a matching bag.

Set option one: Driver, 5-wood, 6-hybrid, 7-PW, SW for $1599.
Set option two: Driver, 3-wood, 5-wood, 5- and 6-hybrid, 7-PW, SW for $1899

Kalea Premier Driver

Every part of the Kalea Premier driver has been optimized

The Kalea driver takes the proven technology of the Sim2 driver with the lightweight carbon crown and sole and removes every last piece of unnecessary mass to create a driver that is both easy to hit and easy to swing. The most noticeable way engineers were able to save mass to boost MOI was by removing the adjustable hosel and sleeve and replacing it with a fixed hosel design.

The mass saving allowed more weight to be placed in the inertia generator along the rear of the forged aluminum ring in a position that promotes a draw bias trajectory and high launch. The driver comes with 12° of loft and is also equipped with a 40g Kalea Premier shaft and 38g grip to round out the club. Available in right-handed and left. Price: $449

Kalea Premier Fairway Woods and Hybrids

Kalea Premier fairway wood

The fairway woods of the Kalea line are unique in that they offer a non-progressive head size to help keep the higher-lofted options more forgiving. Now, you would think something called “non-progressive” might be less ideal — but it’s exactly the opposite. This non-progressive design trait means the 3-, 5- and 7-woods all share the same head volume for added forgiveness.

When comparing the new Kalea Premier 7-wood to the original Kalea from 2019, the new version is a whopping 60% bigger with a face that is also 37% larger. Thanks to the lightweight crown and V-Steel sole, even with the larger shape engineers have been able to keep the majority of the weight low in the head so the clubs are easy to launch, especially off the fairway where they will see most of their action.

The fairway woods come in the lofts 17° (3-wood), 20° (5-wood), and 23° (7-wood; RH Only), and like the driver are equipped with a Kalea Premier 40g shaft and 38g grip to keep the weight as light as possible. Price $249 each

The shallow profile makes the Kalea Premier hybrid extremely forgiving

Taylormade golf

The Kalea Premier hybrids share all of the same technologies as the fairway woods including the carbon crown and V-steel sole design but in a smaller package.

The one extra feature the rescues have is a raised topline profile to inspire confidence by making the face more visible. The raised topline is similar to the extended face design of the modern Adams Tight lies — which we should note is a brand also under the TaylorMade umbrella. This raised topline is a very clever way to make the face bigger without raising the CoG to inspire confidence.

The Kalea Premier Rescue clubs come in lofts  23°, 27°, 31° and 35° (RH Only) with a Kalea Premier 40g shaft and Lamkin Sonar 38g grip. Price: $199 each

Kalea Premier Irons

The Kalea Premier irons are powered by Taylormade’s Cap Back Design, which offers stability to the head along with vibration reduction to improve sound and feel.

The low profile shape of the irons is paired with a Speed pocket in the sole to help increase launch and ball speed on shots hit lower on the face. This is especially important for lower-speed players that are shallow through impact and mishit the majority of their shots lower on the head.

The irons are available 6-PW, AW, & SW in right and left hand and come with the same Kalea Premier 40g shaft and 38g as the hybrids to preserve feel through the set all the way down to the highest lofted wedge.  Priced at $599 6-PW with individual clubs priced at $119.99 a club.

The Kalea Premier irons will also be available in a separate combo set with 5 & 6 Rescues paired with irons 7-PW, and SW for $999.99

Kalea Premier Spider Putter

Keale Spider Mini

Taylormade Golf

The Kalea Spider offers a completely new take on the Spider Mini design by offering an ultra-stable yet lightweight 70g graphite shaft to go with the 33” putter. This helps lighten the overall weight by close to 50g while still helping the putter maintain the same balance as if it has a full 120-gram steel shaft. For easy alignment, the Kalea Spider Mini comes with a full sightline. Price: $279

The Taylormade Kalea Premier line is available for order now and will be on retail shelves on October 14th.

Taylormade MG3 TW Grind

$199 +
The unique grind on each sole was designed by the artful hands of Tiger Woods. The 56° wedge is a dual sole with heavy heel relief, while the 60° has an extremely high bounce on the leading edge with a shaved heel. This makes it possible to open the face for flop shots, while still providing relief on the leading edge for better performance on tight lies.
