Our Picks: The best cold weather and rain gear to stay warm and dry
GOLF
When the temperature starts to drop, I do everything I can to extend my golf season. Living on Long Island, NY, I’ve grown accustomed to layers, gloves, heaters, beanies, and long johns for fall and early spring golf. Through many years of trial and error, I’ve learned what golf apparel and rain gear works best to keep me warm on the course.
This year in particular was a true test of my ability to play in all conditions. Throughout October and November, my travels had me in Scotland for two weeks, Canada, and all over the Northeast. From frigid temperatures to freezing rain to high winds, I played through it all.
Now I’d like to share with you the jackets, hoodies, pullovers, vests, pants, shoes, and gloves I wore to stay warm and dry to help me play beyond my normal weather threshold.
Hoodies
This lightweight hoodie is the pound-for-pound warmth king. It’s fleece-lined and built for athletic movements to keep you swinging as freely as a hot summer day. I grabbed this hoodie more than any other this fall.

FootJoy ThermoSeries Full-Zip Hoodie
When it comes to fall golf, it can be a tale of two rounds if you tee it up early in the day. By the time the sun hits its highest point, you’re ready to shed a few layers. That’s what the ThermoSeries Full-Zip hoodie is perfect for. Toss it on when you need it, and off when you don’t. This jacket packs convenient warmth.

If I know the weather isn’t going to come around, I charge my G-tech hoodie batteries the night before to prepare. This hoodie features a battery-powered bar in the pouch to keep your hands warm and has the insulated feeling of a wetsuit. There’s some weight to it but the snug fit prevents a bulky feeling. It’s shocking how easy it is to maintain a smooth swing in this hoodie. When I’m going to be outside for hours at a time, on or off the course, this is the hoodie I grab.
