Callaway Mack Daddy 2 Tour Grind Wedge

Category: Wedges
Price: $130
56°/11°, 58°/9° with True Temper Dynamic Gold S300 steel shaft
KEY TECHNOLOGIES: Larger grooves generate more spin from the rough than previous models.

PLAYABILITY: A handy, nimble club; the sculpted, crescent sole is a show-off grind—open it up and flop one, shut it down and pinch the ball—it gives you a chance to score from all over; a superb sand club with a sturdy head that slams through everything; gets the ball airborne in a hurry—average players shouldn’t be scared off by the “Tour” tag.
DISTANCE CONTROL: Tons of spin for just about every tester; they come alive inside 30 yards, where no pin is too tucked for the added RPMs; shots from the rough cease and desist—some guys even think the amped-up spin rate mitigates dreaded fliers.
FEEL: Dense, substantial feel with a moderately soft click at impact; nearly vibration free—it delivers feedback to your hands and takes the sting out of bad news; heavy weighting smooths out stabby swings and plays with great stability—toe and heel strikes feel practically reinforced; seems to hold the ball a long time without letting it ride up the face.
LOOK: Sassy and classy, a custom look that exudes attitude and technology—brick-shaped etchings on the face look like chain links, and they hint at the stopping power; chrome and stealthy slate finishes are winners.

For a few testers, heavy, firm impact feels a little rigid; steeper swingers had a little trouble making consistent contact—the head can dive under the ball; high-tech face-etchings look too busy for a couple of guys.

BOTTOM LINE: A high-spin option with a distinctive look. In the right hands, this lively wedge opens up a lot of options around the greens.
