There is perhaps no cocktail more synonymous with Mexico than the classic margarita — a tequila-based libation that is traditionally made with triple sec and lime juice. But at the St. Regis Punta Mita, part of a luxe, 1,500-acre resort and residential community in Nayarit, Mexico, the resort puts a deliciously tropical spin on the drink, which is named for a Punta Mita club member.
At the recent Punta Mita Invitational, four-time PGA Tour Champions winner Esteban Toledo got a first-hand demonstration on how to make Punta Mita’s ultra-delicious iteration — and you can follow his steps to make your own at home.
How to make a Jones margarita
The Jones margarita starts with a cocktail shaker filled with ice, and filling that shaker with equal parts 1800 tequila, Grand Marnier and grapefruit juice. Next, add a splash of lime juice and Controy (Mexican orange liqueur).

Once all the ingredients have been added, you’re ready to give the mixture a good shake — something Toledo said he’d never had the chance to do before.
After a few seconds of vigorous shaking, Toledo then poured the whole mixture into a goblet-style glass before adding a grapefruit wedge garnish.
The final step? That’s the best part: the first sip.
“Wow!” Toledo exclaimed. “Can I have another one? This is fantastic.”
