The Legends Tour — the European equivalent of the PGA Tour Champions — has a new event on the calendar: the WCM Senior Mexico Open.

Scheduled for Nov. 14-17 at Punta Mita‘s Pacifico Golf Course, the tournament will bring together such notable senior players as Ian Woosnam, Michael Campbell, Constantino Rocca and Jean Van de Velde in a unique format that will include 64 amateurs competing as teams of two alongside two Legends Tour professionals.

The host course, which features the world’s only natural ocean island green, is one of two Jack Nicklaus Signature designs at Punta Mita, a 1,500-acre resort and residential community set on a private peninsula, surrounded by 9.5 miles of beaches and lush tropical flora just north of Puerto Vallarta. In addition to private villas and residences, guests can stay in two five-diamond rated resorts, the Four Seasons and St. Regis.

In 2021, Pacifico underwent an extensive renovation effort that included the installation of TifEagle greens, new surrounds with Trinity Zoysia grass and enhanced bunkers and tees. There are seven holes that play directly along the Pacific Ocean, including the island-green “Tail of the Whale” — also known as hole 3B.

During the three-day event at Punta Mita, professional golfers will vie for an prize purse of $450,000.

For the amateurs, the team with the most Stableford points (a scoring system in which a player’s handicap is incorporated, and scores like birdies, pars and eagles are awarded a pre-determined point value) will be crowned as the Mexico Senior Open Alliance champions.
