This week, the PGA Tour’s west coast swing continues with the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am in beautiful Pebble Beach, Calif. Of the 156 players currently in the field, a handful of big names are on hand: Jordan Spieth, Jason Day, Daniel Berger, Patrick Cantlay, and Will Zalatoris are all in attendance. Not a bad showing, to be sure.
But half a world away, another tournament is taking place — and this one is packing a lot more star power.
The Saudi International is making its debut on the Asian Tour schedule this year, and though a significant portion of the 120-player field is composed of Asian Tour players, there is a sizable contingent of top American players who are set to compete — and they reportedly received hefty appearance fees to do so.
The biggest names among them: Dustin Johnson (a two-time champion), Xander Schauffele and Bryson DeChambeau. Phil Mickelson, Sergio Garcia, Tommy Fleetwood, Tony Finau, Patrick Reed, Cameron Smith and Abraham Ancer are there too. In all, 21 of the world’s top 50 players will tee it up at Royal Greens Golf and Country Club in King Abdullah Economic City, Saudi Arabia, beginning on February 3.
