After days of competition, we’ve reached the semifinal round at the 2021 WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the action on Sunday from Austin Country Club.
WGC-Dell Match Play final day preview
It’s Sunday at Austin Country Club and we’re down to only four golfers remaining in the 2021 WGC-Dell Match Play: 30-seed Scottie Scheffler, 31-seed Victor Perez, 32-seed Billy Horschel and 52-seed Matt Kuchar. Those four make a unique group of underdogs — none higher than the 30-seed in the 64-player tournament. Each found their way into the semifinal round on Sunday by virtue of a mix of good luck and very good golf, outlasting a bevy of top players and former Ryder Cuppers along the way.
The four players will each play two matches on Sunday. First, each will tee off around 9:30 a.m. ET in the semifinal round (in those matches, the pairings are Kuchar-Scheffler and Horschel-Perez). The winners from each of those matches will go on to play in the championship match Sunday afternoon, while the losers will play in the third-place match.
If there’s a favorite among the group heading into Sunday’s final matches, it’s Scottie Scheffler. Scheffler attended college just down the road from Austin Country Club at the University of Texas and grew up in Dallas — figuring to factor in a home-field advantage for Sunday’s final matches. The 24-year-old is still in search of his first PGA Tour victory, but has shown a penchant for big moments, racking up top-20 finishes at the 2020 PGA Championship and Masters and low amateur honors at the U.S. Open.
