How to turn a golf shirt into a coronavirus mask, according to the CDC

A golf shirt or a golf towel might just save a life.

As the coronavirus continues to spread, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is recommending “wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.” Some areas in the country are making masks mandatory.

The CDC has also released steps on how to create homemade masks here.

Under a page on the CDC’s website entitled “Use of Cloth Face Covering to Help Slow the Spread of Covid-19,” they provide “quick cut T-shirt face covering (no sew method)” instructions, where the only materials needed are a T-shirt and scissors. There are also instructions for a “sewn cloth face covering” and a “bandana face covering (no sew method).” If you want to use your old golf shirt instead, just substitute it for the T-shirt and follow the same steps.

Dr. Jerome Adams, the U.S. surgeon general, has also released a step-by-step video on how to create a face covering with a T-shirt, a bandana or a hand towel, or a scarf.

“Stopping the spread is everything,” New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said last week, the New York Times reported. “How can you not wear a mask when you’re going to come close to a person?”
