It’s Ryder Cup week, meaning Bethpage Black is ready to take center stage. And, if you are daring enough, you can even play it yourself.
The Black Course at Bethpage State Park is not only one of the best public golf courses in the world, but it’s also one of the most challenging. Although you probably know that last part. The famous warning sign greets golfers behind the first tee, and you’ll no doubt hear plenty about the Black Course’s punitive rough, length and sheer difficulty this week.
The Black ranks 34th on GOLF’s list of the Top 100 Courses in the U.S., but it vaults all the way up to 5th among the Top 100 public courses (not to mention it headlines the best munis in America ranking).
How much it costs to play Bethpage Black
The best part? That’s right, the price.
While teeing it up on any of the courses in the top 10 of GOLF’s Top 100 Courses You Can Play ranking will cost you a couple of hundred bucks easy, the Black Course is a steal.
For New York residents, it’s $70 during the week and just $44 for twilight. That price increases slightly over the weekend, moving to $80 on Saturday and Sunday and $50 for weekend twilight. Juniors and seniors also get discounts, paying $47 weekday or $30 twilight.
Even out-of-staters can play one of the best public courses in America for a competitive price. For them, the Black is $140 weekday ($88 twilight) and $160 weekend ($100 twilight).
The Black Course doesn’t allow carts, so that extra fee isn’t even something you have to figure into the cost.
Bethpage also has four other courses — the Green, Blue, Yellow and Red, the latter another local favorite — open to the public. To learn more about booking your own Bethpage tee time, click here.
