Tiger vs. Phil match officially scheduled; PPV price, sponsors announced

October 25, 2018

Now it’s official: for less than 20 dollars, you can take in The Match. Actually, make that “Capital One’s The Match: Tiger vs. Phil.” It may not roll off the tongue, but it’s coming to pay-per-view on a television near you the day after Thanksgiving.

Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson will square off Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. ET at Shadow Creek, Turner Sports announced in a release on Thursday. The match, which is being played for $9 million will cost $19.99 on pay-per-view. Justin Thomas has already announced he won’t be watching, but there’s some good news: some of the proceeds will go to charity.

Audi, AT&T and MGM are among the other sponsors for the event. Included in the press release is a specific reference to potential side bets:

“As previously announced, the winner of this blockbuster, winner-take-all showdown between two golf legends will walk away with $9 million. During the live event competition, both Woods and Mickelson will selectively make side challenges against one another.  For instance, Woods or Mickelson could raise the stakes by challenging the other to a long-drive, closest-to-the-pin or similar competition during a hole as they play their match, with money being donated to the winning golfer’s charity of choice.”

However, if you were planning to watch the event in-person, you should go ahead and scratch those plans. The Match will not be open to the public and will reportedly only be open to sponsors and VIP guests.
