Fantasy Six Pack: Get these players in your DraftKings and FanDuel lineups at the Wyndham Championship

July 31, 2019

Welcome to the Fantasy Six Pack! If this is your first time joining us, we highlight six golfers to use in two popular fantasy golf platforms, DraftKings and FanDuel. On each, you must select six golfers for your lineup under a specific salary cap. (DraftKings $50,000, FanDuel $60,000) A little about me: I’m a golf nut with a 4 handicap that’s trending upward (since my son, James, was born, it’s skyrocketed) and a nose for analytics — according to Rotogrinders, I’m one of the top daily fantasy golf players and ranked inside the top five of all players. Check out more of my articles on Awesemo.com. Last week I was able to win the big Multi-Mass-Entry contest on FanDuel for $30,000!

The Tournament: Wyndham Championship
Course: Sedgefield CC
Average Winning Score: -20
Average Cut: -3
Yardage: 7,200
Par: 70

Last year’s top finishers:

Brandt Snedeker
Webb Simpson
Ryan Armour
Brian Gay
Nick Taylor

Skills emphasized: Sedgefield CC provides some of the easiest greens to hit on the Tour all year, due to fairway width and green size. The majority of approaches come from 150-175 yards, so those stats (GIR and approach from 150-175), plus strokes gained on approaches look pivotal this week.

The Favorite:

Collin Morikawa (Odds: 18/1, DraftKings $10,400, FanDuel $11,500) If you follow me, you no doubt no I’ve mentioned Morikawa before. But this is the first time I’ve made him the favorite in a full field. It’s truly remarkable to watch his quick ascent – he now has better odds to win than Jordan Spieth (Odds: 18/1, DraftKings $10,600, FanDuel $11,800). His putting has been mediocre but his ball striking numbers have been world-top-10-worthy. Maybe that’s where he’s headed.

Going Streaking: Players entering this week in excellent form

Webb Simpson (Odds: 10/1, DraftKings $11,200, FanDuel $12,300) Simpson is actually the odds-on favorite this week, but I had to give the top spot to Morikawa because he’s earned it. Webb coming in hot off a runner-up at the FedEx St. Jude, and he has a good history at Sedgefield with four top-10s in the last five years. All signs point to him getting right back in the mix this week.

Cameron Smith (Odds: 40/1, DraftKings $9,000, FanDuel $10,600) There are a couple of players that are “true to form” golfers, which might be a term I just made up. It’s what I call golfers who are able to stay in top form once they find it. (And when they go off the rails, they stay there for a while.) Chez Reavie (Odds: 40/1, DraftKings $9,300, FanDuel $11,100) also fits this category to a tee, but Cam Smith is on his way. He’s riding three straight top-30s with each start better than the last. He’s a strong second golfer for your lineup this week.

FedEx Cup Bubble Boy of the Week

Bronson Burgoon (Odds: 150/1, DraftKings $6,900, FanDuel 8,600) Sitting at No. 146 in the standings, Burgoon needs something close to a top-15 this week to crack the top 125. He’s coming off his first top-5 of the year at the Barracuda and maybe he can parlay it. He’ll still get about 20-25 starts next year if he stays inside the top 125-150.

Out of Bounds: A lesser-known player ready to break out

Charlie Danielson (Odds: N/A, DraftKings $6,100, FanDuel $7,100) Danielson cracked the top 10 last week at the Barracuda to earn another Tour start this week. He also made the cut at the U.S Open as well as a couple of other starts. One more weekend finish this week could get him to the Web.com finals and a clear path to a Tour card.

Mulligans: A struggling player looking to turn it around

Hideki Matsuyama (Odds: 14/1, DraftKings $10,900, FanDuel $12,200) After a few years of great British Open play, and no missed cuts, Hideki’s second round at Portrush began with a triple bogey and led to an MC. Then he struggled again last week. Take that triple back and maybe he enters Sedgefield with more momentum.
