Winner’s bag: Keith Mitchell’s equipment at the Honda Classic

March 4, 2019

Keith Mitchell buried a 15-footer for birdie on the final hole to win the Honda Classic by one shot over Brooks Koepka and Rickie Fowler. The maiden PGA Tour title for Mitchell came with some new equipment in the bag, including a TaylorMade Spider X putter that he used to make the tournament-winning putt.

Ranked 218th on the PGA Tour in Strokes Gained: Putting entering the week, Mitchell opted to shake things up. According to a TaylorMade representative, Mitchell liked how the sight line helped him consistently pick his spot on the greens. He ranked a respectable 38th in the field in the statistical category for the tournament.

Mitchell also relied on a strong tee-to-green performance that saw him rank tops in the field in that Strokes Gained category, with a setup consisting of Mizuno’s ST190 driver and MP-18 irons. Mitchell’s muscleback irons served him well at PGA National, setting up a four-birdie back nine highlighted by a nine-iron from 160 yards on the difficult par-3 15th that landed just four feet from the hole.
