Who wins the Masters on Sunday? Our staff makes their picks

Moving Day at the Masters is complete, and what a day it was. Scottie Scheffler birdied the 18th for the outright lead heading into Sunday, while Collin Morikawa shot 69 to play his way into the final pairing at just one shot back. Max Homa is two off the lead, while Ludvig Aberg (three back) and Bryson DeChambeau (four back) round out the top five. All that stands between the contenders and the green jacket is 18 baked-out holes at Augusta National. So, who will be our winner come Sunday?

Zephyr Melton, assistant editor (@zephyrmelton): It’s hard to pick against Scottie Scheffler at this point. He had a (brief) moment on Saturday where he looked mortal, going three-over during a two-hole stretch to begin the back nine, but he righted the ship and played his last six holes in three under. Collin Morikawa should prove to be a formidable foe in the final pairing, but Scottie looks too strong to beat. In just under 24 hours, the Texan will slip on his second green jacket.

Jessica Marksbury, senior editor (@jess_marksbury): Scottie will seal the deal. He cast a smidgen of doubt about his prospects with Saturday’s round, which included three bogeys and a double, but that was erased by the grit he displayed on the second half of the back nine. We saw some rare emotion when he eagled the 13th, and finishing with that sweet birdie on 18 was huge. It’s not impossible, but I think it’s too much of an ask for any of his chasers to overtake him.

Dylan Dethier, senior writer (@dylan_dethier): Max Homa. He’s a closer. Underrated as a closer. Getting into contention is the toughest part for him — he’s there now. He wins his first major.

Josh Sens, senior writer (@joshsens): All signs pointed to Scottie Scheffler from the start, and they still do. He’s not going backwards. Someone will have to take it from him. Of the bunch trailing, I’d put my money on Aberg, who is so well suited for Augusta that he had two brain cramps on the back nine and still shot two under, one of the best rounds of the day. I wager that he makes it close, but Scottie ultimately gets it done.

Don’t go with what everyone else said and pick Scheffler. I’m sorry, but I have to go with Scheffler as well. I love Collin Morikawa’s game, but Scheffler had his slip-up on 10 and 11 today. I don’t think he’s going to do it again. I will say this: Scheffler will shoot 68 tomorrow, so Morikawa will have to put up a 67 to catch him. That score simply might not be out there.

James Colgan, news and features editor (@jamescolgan26): Morikawa absolutely has the style and the gumption to win on Sunday, but he’s been riding too many changes to keep it together down the stretch. Think it’s an epic finish, and Max Homa emerges with the green jacket.
