With the 2023 Masters just days away, we’re taking a look at the betting favorite to win this week at Augusta National. It turns out the correct term is “betting favorites,” because oddsmakers have two star players tied atop the odds-to-win standings. Here’s what you need to know
Who is the 2023 Masters favorite?
Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are tied as the betting favorites to win the Masters. Both players feature odds-to-win of +700. There’s good reason why both players have earned favorite status.
Scheffler is the defending champion this week, having triumphed at last year’s Masters to earn his first major victory. Scheffler was No. 1 in the Official World Golf Ranking then, a title he once again holds heading into this year’s tournament. After cooling off in the second half of last season, Scheffler has charged back to the top of the ranking with recent wins at the WM Phoenix Open and Players Championship.
McIlroy is right behind Scheffler at No. 2 in the OWGR. He won the CJ Cup in October, finished T2 at the Arnold Palmer Invitational in March, then beat Scheffler in the consolation match at the WGC-Dell Technologies Match Play to finish third. He has four-career major wins to his name, but he has never won the Masters.
