The 2020 U.S. Open, scheduled for June 18-21 at Winged Foot Golf Club, has been postponed due to coronavirus concerns, according to a report from the New York Post.
USGA officials said earlier in the week that they wouldn’t make any decision on the playing of the U.S. Open until mid-April, but a source told the Post that the event has been bumped. Winged Foot is in Mamaroneck, N.Y., less than 30 miles north of New York City, a hot zone for the virus.
A source told the Post that the club is “optimistic” that the U.S. Open could still be played at Winged Foot later in the summer but other outlets have reported that Oakmont Country Club, near Pittsburgh, could also step in to play host to the event, perhaps in September.

The USGA has not confirmed the reported postponement, saying two days ago that it would not announce a decision until next month.
“We continue to hold the dates for the U.S. Open at Winged Foot in June and monitor all available guidance and regulations from the CDC, WHO and other federal, state and local authorities to do what is in the best interests of the community for the health and safety of all those involved,” the USGA said.
The reported decision came on the same day that the United States passed China and Italy for most confirmed coronavirus cases in the world with 85,762. New York state accounts for 38,977 of those confirmed cases.
The U.S. Open now joins the Masters and the PGA Championship in postponing their events until later in the summer, while the PGA Tour has canceled all competition until late May. The Olympics also announced a postponement of their competitions until 2021.
The Open Championship remains the last major golf event that is still holding on to its original place on the schedule.
