Here’s what you missed from Round 2 of the 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open

February 1, 2020

The 2020 Waste Management Phoenix Open at TPC Scottsdale’s Stadium course is already at the halfway point, and while there were still plenty of red numbers on the leaderboard in Round 2, no player came close to Wyndham Clark’s astounding 10-under-par 61 from Thursday.

Here’s everything you missed from Friday’s action in Scottsdale.

J.B. Holmes leads

Two-time Waste Management Phoenix Open champion J.B. Holmes leapfrogged Round 1 leader Wyndham Clark on the leaderboard on Friday after firing a second round of six-under-par 65.

Coupled with Holmes’ first round of seven-under-par 64, Holmes is now 13 under par overall and leads Clark and the field by one shot.

Holmes has five career PGA Tour titles, the most recent being the 2019 Genesis Open, but his last win at the Waste Management Phoenix Open was 12 years ago in 2008.

Who else is in the hunt?

Players within three shots of Holmes’ lead include Clark (-12), Billy Horschel and Byeong Hun An (-11), and Scott Piercy (-10).

What about the big names?

Xander Schauffele and Webb Simpson are still in the conversation at five shots back and eight under par overall.

Jon Rahm looked like he was making a major run on his back nine, carding five birdies in a row on Nos. 11-15, but two late bogeys resulted in a round of just three under par. He’s now seven under par overall, alongside Bubba Watson and Tony Finau.

Justin Thomas is six under par overall, Gary Woodland is five under and Matt Kuchar is four under.

Defending champ Rickie Fowler bounced back admirably with a second round of six-under-par 65 after suffering an opening round of three over par 74 on Thursday. He’s now three under par overall, alongside Bryson DeChambeau.

Who were the notables to miss the cut?

There were 67 players who shot one under par or better to earn their way into weekend play. Notable names who fell short of that mark include Kevin Na (E), Viktor Hovland (E), Jordan Spieth (+1), Brandt Snedeker (+2), and Charl Schwartzel (+4).

How can I watch Round 3?

Golf Channel will be airing coverage of the third round from 1-2:45 p.m. ET, then CBS will take over from 3-6 p.m. ET.
