Here’s what you missed from Round 2 of the Wells Fargo Championship

May 3, 2019

The second round of the Wells Fargo Championship is in the books, and my, what a difference a day makes when it comes to the look of the top of the leaderboard.

Here’s everything you missed from Friday’s action at Quail Hollow.

Jason Dufner leads with second-round 63

Seven birdies, an eagle and a bogey all added up to a scintillating eight-under-par 63 for Jason Dufner, which tied the low round of the day.

Duf climbed seven spots up the leaderboard to take the solo lead by one shot over Joel Dahmen and Max Homa. The trio have separated themselves from their competitors by four shots (five for Dufner).

Dufner has five Tour wins on his resume, the most recent of which was the 2017 Memorial.

What happened to Rory?

Rory McIlroy, the 6/1 favorite and leader after Round 1, had a so-so day, firing one-under-par 70. He made plenty of birdies (five) but was derailed by a tough double-bogey, bogey stretch on Nos. 8 and 9.

He’s still in good position, though, at six under par overall, which is currently T4, five shots back of Dufner’s lead.

What about the other tournament headliners?

Glad you asked. Patrick Reed is hanging right in with Rory at six under par overall, shooting 67-69 for the first two rounds.

Justin Rose had a better day today, shooting four under par to get to five under overall. He’s T6, along with defending champ Jason Day.

Rickie Fowler and Tony Finau are T27 at one under par, while Sergio Garcia is T47 at even par.

Who missed the cut?

While the guys above are making the course look easy, others are having a tougher time. There are plenty of notables who missed the cut (which was one over par) this week:

Zach Johnson, Keegan Bradley (+2)

Ernie Els, Cameron Champ (+3)

Phil Mickelson (+5)

Danny Willett (+6)

Padraig Harrington (+8)
