Here’s what you missed from Round 2 of the Charles Schwab Challenge

May 24, 2019

The halfway point of this year’s Charles Schwab Challenge is already upon us, and Jonas Blixt is leading the charge.

Here’s everything you missed from Friday’s action at Colonial Country Club.

Jonas Blixt leads

Jonas Blixt, the 35-year-old Tour veteran from Sweden, leads the field at nine under par. Blixt had a clean scorecard on Friday that featured four birdies and a hole-out eagle on the par-4 17th (see video below).

Blixt has three tour victories on his resume, but hasn’t won since the 2017 Zurich Classic. His best finish this season is T15 at the Genesis Open.

Some big names are lurking

Yesterday’s leader, Tony Finau, shot 68 in the second round and now trails Blixt’s lead by one shot.

Jim Furyk and Jordan Spieth are four shots behind in T7 at five under par overall.

Kevin Na had the round of the day

After a shooting a first-round 70, Kevin Na caught fire on Friday, carding six birdies, an eagle and no bogeys en route to a round of eight-under-par 62.

Na launched himself 36 spots up the leaderboard into T2. The 35-year-old has two career Tour wins on his resume and two top-10 finishes so far this season.

Notables to miss the cut

Many of the tournament’s big names were in trouble after poor first rounds on Thursday, and unfortunately, those who failed to rally in the second round must bid Fort Worth a premature goodbye.

Notables to miss the cut (which was +2)  include Xander Schauffele (+3), Rickie Fowler (+3), Bryson DeChambeau (+4), Jon Rahm (+6) and Zach Johnson (+7).

Defending champ Justin Rose was in danger of being among the names above after shooting 74 on Thursday, but he fired a three-under-par 67 to get back inside the cut line at one over par overall. Francesco Molinari also survived, and is one over overall after shooting 71-70.
