Farmers Insurance Open betting odds: Favorites and underdogs at Torrey Pines

January 23, 2019

The PGA Tour continues its West Coast swing this week as it heads to Torrey Pines in San Diego for the Farmers Insurance Open. The field for this week’s event is absolutely loaded, but who is the favorite in terms of betting odds?

For a second straight week, world No. 7 Jon Rahm enters as the odds-on favorite to win a Tour event after being pegged with the highest odds to win at last week’s Desert Classic. However, Rahm took sixth at the event in La Quinta, California. Rahm, who was last victorious at the Hero World Challenge in December, enters with 10/1 odds to win. He came out on top at Torrey Pines in 2017.

Following closely behind Rahm are world No. 1 Justin Rose, No. 8 Rory McIlroy, and No. 12 Jason Day with 14/1 odds to win. Rose finished tied for 34th at the Desert Classic and last won at the Turkish Airlines Open on the European Tour this past November.

McIlroy’s last appearance on the Tour came earlier this month at the Sentry Tournament of Champions, where he finished tied for fourth. However, his most recent win came last March at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Meanwhile, Day enters as the tournament’s defending champ after winning the Farmers in a playoff for his second career victory at Torrey Pines. Day’s last appearance on Tour was a 13th place finish at the Sentry, while his last win came this past May at the Wells Fargo Championship.

Of course, the biggest storyline entering this week is the 2019 debut of Tiger Woods. He comes into the event with the fifth-highest odds to win at 16/1. Woods’s last win on Tour came this past September at the Tour Championship, while his last appearance on a golf course came at the Hero in December. Tiger has won the Farmers seven times in his career, but not since 2013. He has eight career victories at Torrey Pines, including his 14th and most recent major title at the 2008 U.S. Open.
