The 2023 Solheim Cup gets underway this week at Finca Cortesin Golf Club in Spain, where the U.S. team will try to reclaim the title from Team Europe. Here’s everything you need to know to watch the event, including a full Solheim Cup TV schedule, streaming schedule and more.
Solheim Cup preview
With this year’s Solheim Cup set to begin, what happened at the last iteration of the biennial team event is likely at the top of players’ minds. At the 2021 Solheim Cup, Team Europe shocked a heavily-favored U.S. squad to narrowly win the Cup by a score of 15-13. It was Europe’s second-straight win and their fourth in the last six Solheim Cups.
Now the American team captained by Stacy Lewis — and featuring stars like Nelly Korda, Danielle Kang, Lilia Vu and Rose Zhang, to name a few — are hungry for revenge. But to get it, they’ll have to beat the Europeans on their home turf at Finca Cortesin Golf Club in Spain.
Europe will be captained by two-time major champion Suzann Pettersen, with star players like Celine Boutier, Charley Hull, Leona Maguire and Linn Grant leading the charge inside the ropes.
Solheim Cup format
The 2023 Solehim Cup will be contested across three days of competition. For Day 1 on Friday, September 22, there will be four foursomes matches and four fourball matches, all featuring two players from each team.
The second day of competition on Saturday, September 23, will also feature eight matches in total across two sessions, one foursomes and one fourball.
Then for the finale on Sunday all 24 players will compete in 12 singles matches to determine the champion.
One point is up for grabs in each match, with a half-point going to each team in the event of a tie. Twenty-eight points will be doled out in total, with the American team needing to reach 14.5 to win. As the defending champions, the European team only need 14 points to retain the Cup.
