Tiger makes Sunday charge with five birdies on front nine of final round at the Memorial

June 2, 2019

In his iconic Sunday red and black, Tiger Woods came charging out of the gates during the final round of the Memorial Tournament with five birdies on the front nine.

After settling for par at the first hole, Woods’ charge officially began when he sunk back-to-back birdies at the second and third holes. It moved him to two-under on the day and six-under for the tournament. However, Tiger was still nine shots back.

After a par at the fourth hole, Tiger continued his strong play with his third birdie at the par-5 fifth hole. Three birdies in five holes on Sunday moved Woods to three-under for the day and seven-under overall.

After making par at the sixth hole, Woods then went birdie-birdie at the seventh and eighth holes. All of a sudden, Tiger found himself five-under for the round and nine-under for the tournament.

Tiger closed out his front nine with another par to remain tied for sixth and six shots back of the leader, Martin Kaymer, with nine holes to play. Woods has won five times at the Muirfield Village, with his most recent victory coming in 2012. Tiger is looking for his first win since the Masters this past April.
