By now, you’ve heard about Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson playing their big-time match in Las Vegas the day after Thanksgiving. You’ve likely heard some of the stakes, too: a $9 million pot, plus more on the side. But where does that money go? When someone wins, who gets to keep the money?
Winner-take-all
Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson are playing for $9 million dollars in a winner-take-all match play format. That will be the bulk of the money on the table during Friday’s match. That money is not being put up by the players themselves but by sponsors.
Charitable giving
The teams of Woods and Mickelson announced that they will each donate a portion of the proceeds to charities of their choice, according to GolfChannel.com.
Steve Loy, Mickelson’s manager, said that Lefty plans to donate to three different charities: Mickelson’s own foundation, the Children of the 58 fund and the Las Vegas Shriners.
Woods’s agent said that Tiger planned to donate to his own foundation and other unspecified local charities.
Side bets
On Tuesday, Mickelson and Woods agreed on the first side-bet of the week: Mickelson will win $200,000 if he birdies the first hole. Releases from Turner and comments from the players have indicated you can expect plenty more such bets. The side action is said to be coming directly from the pockets of Mickelson and Woods, who hinted that they may be willing to wager into the seven figures of their own cash.

Match organizers
Among the interested parties is WarnerMedia, the organizers of the pay-per-view match. You can be sure that they are heavily invested in the result. “I wanted us to be as fresh as possible,” he said. “There are very few times in your career when you get to build something from scratch,” said Craig Barry, chief content officer for Turner, in an interview with Sports Illustrated. The Match costs $19.99. That gets you access to the live stream as well as the ability to watch a replay for 48 hours after the event.

The Match begins at 3:00 p.m. EST/12:00 p.m. PST. If you’re planning to order The Match, there are some things you may want to consider.
