Sony Open purse: payout breakdown and winner’s share for Sunday in Hawaii

Brendan Steele Purse

Brendan Steele is the leader heading into Sunday at the Sony Open in Hawaii. The world’s 403rd-ranked player holds a three-shot lead over the field at Waialae Country Club in Honolulu after a 6 under 64 in round three.

Steele sits atop a crowded leaderboard, with Cameron Smith, Kevin Kisner, Webb Simpson and Collin Morikawa trailing closely behind. Matt Kuchar, last year’s Sony winner, ended his week on Friday at 2 over, missing the cut along with Justin Thomas and Patrick Reed, who ended lengthy made-cut streaks.

While Kuchar, Thomas and Reed all surprised for their missed cuts, Steele is something of a shock to be in contention. Beyond his world ranking, Steele hasn’t finished top-10 in a tournament since 2018. If he holds on Sunday, it’ll mark his fourth-career PGA Tour win and first since the Safeway Open in 2017.

And if Steele is able to hold on Sunday (he tees off at 5:30 p.m. ET), the California native will head home with a hefty chunk of change in his pocket. Below is the payout for the Sony’s $6.6 million purse; you can watch the action on Golf Channel Sunday beginning at 6 p.m.
