Winning a PGA Tour event is an outstanding achievement that only a few golfers ever achieve, but there’s a difference between PGA Tour winner and major winner.
Sepp Straka, he of two career PGA Tour victories wants to join the latter club of major winners, like many of the other top pros on the world’s top tour. During a recent appearance on GOLF Subpar, co-hosts Colt Knost and Drew Stoltz asked Straka what it would take to make that happen.
“I think just keep doing what I’m doing. just gotta keep improving in my game,” Straka said. “There’s a few things that need to be a little bit better, but I mean, overall, I think my game is good enough to win a major.”
Each major plays into different strengths with the U.S. Open and PGA Championship providing typically difficult scoring challenges, the Masters presented with the best conditions at Augusta National, and the Open Championship brings golfers to the links courses of Great Britain.

Straka said he thinks the Open Championship might provide his best opportunity.
“I like playing in wind,” Straka said. “I don’t hit it as high as some of these other guys. So I don’t hit it really far enough for Augusta. but yeah, I mean, even I guess, I mean, if I have a good week, there’s definitely a chance. but, yeah, The Open is probably my number one.”
His results back that up as Straka has played in three Open Championships and recorded his best career major finish last year at Royal Liverpool with a T2 finish. He also finished T22 this year at Royal Troon, which is his fourth-best major finish. But the Masters is the only major in which he has yet to miss a cut.
