Serious foodies have long maintained that the drinking and dining at Pinehurst Resort and Country Club was nearly as special as the golf. Definitely come thirsty and hungry the next time you go, because things just got even better.
Brand new at Pinehurst is The Deuce, a bar and restaurant that is so handsomely appointed, it would look good anywhere. What elevates The Deuce, however, is what it serves, and where it sits — overlooking one of golf’s most historic greens, the 18th at Pinehurst No. 2.
With a bar area that opens onto a veranda, you can raise your glass and practically touch the statue of Payne Stewart, frozen in bronze, celebrating his 1999 U.S. Open win.
“Even when you are sitting inside The Deuce, you are literally a ball-toss from the 18th green,” says Tom Pashley, president of Pinehurst. “When the windows are open, you can hear the sounds of the game, whether it’s a roar for a made putt or the groans for one that just lipped out. You feel like you’re part of the event, whether in one of the seats on the veranda, or even sitting at the bar.”
The 5,000-square-foot restaurant serves lunch daily and a selection of appetizers into the evening. Distinctive starter options include bruschetta chicken salad, prime rib chili and even crab hushpuppy beignets with fiery lemon aioli. To wash it down, The Deuce pours a variety of specialty cocktails and regional craft beers, such as the specially brewed Pinehurst Pale Ale.
Take some time to process the dazzling array of photos and memorabilia that adorns the walls before peering out at the action on the 18th green, replete with visions of your own past or future glories.
