PGA Championship delayed after vendor ‘struck and killed’ by shuttle bus near Valhalla

The second round the 2024 PGA Championship was delayed after a tragic incident early Friday morning, when an employee of a tournament vendor was “struck and killed” by a shuttle bus near Valhalla, according to an official tournament press release.

The PGA of America released the following statement at 9:29 a.m. ET:

“This morning we were devastated to learn that a worker with one of our vendors was tragically struck and killed by a shuttle bus outside Valhalla Golf Club. This is heartbreaking to all of us involved with the PGA Championship. We extend our sincere condolences to their family and loved ones.”

In a later statement, the PGA of America identified the man as John Mills.

Earlier Friday morning, PGA Championship tournament officials had announced in a press release that the start of the second round would be delayed Friday morning due to a “serious accident near the course.”

No further details about the nature of the accident were provided at the time. ESPN later reported to that incident in question was a fatal accident involving a bus and a pedestrian.

Then at 7:40 a.m. ET, tournament officials provided an update via press release, announcing that the second round would get underway at 8:35 a.m. ET. In all, tee times would be delayed 1 hour and 20 minutes. You can see the updated second-round PGA Championship tee times for Friday here.
