2020 Memorial cut line: Will Tiger Woods miss the cut? Here’s where he stands

UPDATE (6:45 P.M. ET): Hours after Tiger Woods finished off a second-round 76 that left him at three over, the cut line moved from two over to three over, allowing Woods to sneak inside the cut and live to play another day. He will return to play the third round of the 2020 Memorial on Saturday.

We’re now well into the second round at the 2020 Memorial Tournament, and all eyes have been on Tiger Woods early in the day on Friday. Wood opened with a one-under 71 on Thursday and started Round 2 in good form before his game took a turn for the worse. Will Tiger miss the cut at the Memorial? Here’s what you need to know.

Memorial Tournament cut rule

The Memorial Tournament applies the standard PGA Tour rules when determining the cut. After two rounds and 36 holes, the top 65 players and ties will make the cut and return to play the final two rounds on the weekend. Those outside the top 65 miss the cut and head home with hanging heads.

At the beginning of the second round, the projected cut sat at two over par. At the time of his 8:17 a.m. ET tee time, Woods was more focused on the lead than the bottom of the leaderboard. He made it to two under early, and at one point was only two shots back, but things went haywire for Tiger soon after.

He made bogeys at 13, 15 and 17, then followed it up with a double bogey at the 1st. Another bogey at 2 dropped him to four over, in a tie for 91st and at serious risk of missing the cut.

So will Tiger be sent packing when the round comes to an end? As of 1:15 p.m. ET, the projected cut was holding at two over, but with Muirfield Village putting up a tough test, it’s possible it moves down as the afternoon wave of players make their way through the round. But with his round over, Tiger was still on the outside looking in and will definitely need some help to secure a spot in the third and fourth rounds.

If the cut stays put of moves up, he will miss the cut at the Memorial for the first time in his career — not the comeback he had envisioned.
