The Napa Valley has been good to Max Homa. The 31-year-old, who hails from Burbank, Calif., won last year’s Fortinet Championship at Silverado Resort & Spa in Napa, and he’s well on his way to repeating his win at this year’s event.

What’s the secret to Homa’s sustained success here? According to his comments on Friday, the key is following his wife Lacey’s quality eating advice.

After finishing off a second-round 67 that left him tied with Danny Willett for the Fortinet Championship lead at the halfway point, Homa met with reporters for a flash interview.

Just before the interview ended and he walked off to the locker room, PGA Tour writer Cameron Morfit asked Homa one final question: is he following the same winning routine he used at last year’s Fortinet, including eating at the same restaurants? And before Morfit was even able to finish his question, Homa gave his response:

“I just go wherever my wife tells me,” a smiling Homa said, drawing laughs from the room. “So I guess I’ve kept that the same.”

Then another reporter shot him a follow-up, asking specifically which restaurants Homa’s wife had “dragged” him to.

“Don’t say ‘dragged,’ then I’ll get in trouble,” Homa said. “We went to Ad Hoc… Bottega, and she didn’t drag me to this one, we went to French Laundry for dinner with the Tour. That one’s pretty darn good indeed.”

For the record, Lacey Homa clearly knows what she’s talking about when it comes to good eating. The three-Michelin-starred French Laundry and Ad Hoc are creations of legendary American chef Thomas Keller.

We’ll have to wait until Saturday night to find out where the Homas dined after Round 2. Homa tees off for the third round alongside co-leader Willett at 4:55 p.m. ET.
