Rory McIlroy might tell you he’s just fine winning the Masters green jacket and wasn’t even worried about the winner’s check that came with it. He’s probably telling the truth — but still, don’t count on him forgetting to cash it.
McIlroy took home $4.2 million with his epic Masters win on Sunday at Augusta National Golf Club, which also vaulted him up the Masters career money leaders ranking. With the whopping first-place prize, he now ranks third all-time in Masters money earned.
McIlroy’s $4.2 million check nearly doubled his career Masters earnings in his prior 16 appearances ($4,343,021).
He has now banked $8,543,021 in his career at Augusta National Golf Club, which ranks behind only Phil Mickelson ($9,870,317) and Tiger Woods ($9,642,636).

McIlroy wasn’t the only top-10 shakeup on the Masters career money list.
Justin Rose lost the playoff to McIlroy — Rose also lost a 2017 playoff to Sergio Garcia — but still won $2.268 million, launching him from seventh to fifth on the list, passing Jordan Spieth and Jon Rahm.
Scottie Scheffler, despite taking home $1.008 million for fourth place, dropped from third to fourth, as he was leapfrogged by McIlroy.
Nine of the 10 players on the top-10 list remained the same from last year, although Patrick Reed and his $1.428 million earned via his third-place finish jumped from 12th to 7th, passing Rahm, Dustin Johnson and Bubba Watson and knocking 2021 Masters winner Hideki Matsuyama out of the top 10.
